The meeting that some Cass County residents have been asking for finally took place Thursday.

A wind farm could be in the county’s future.

Hundreds of community members gathered at the forum tonight to become educated on the issue.

RES, or Renewable Energy Systems, is proposing 415 turbines be put in Cass County.

The current setbacks state that the turbines will be placed 1,000 feet from people’s homes.

Many community members are concerned that the large windmills need to be placed further for safety reasons.

Community Member Laura Redweick says the current setbacks and regulations are outdated.

She also believes the issue is tearing the community apart.

“It’s gonna destroy the community. I mean there’s such a division between people on how they feel about this project, it’s impacting this community. I mean, we have neighbors, we have friends. It causes a lot of sleepless nights,” Redweick said.

The tallest building in Indianapolis is the Sales Force Tower, which stretches 701 feet.

The turbines would range from 660 to 820 feet tall.
