Delta County residents share thoughts, concerns on Heritage Wind Farm additions

A special meeting of the Delta County Planning Commission was held Tuesday night to give citizens another chance to share their feelings on the proposed additions to the Heritage Wind Farm on the Garden Peninsula.

Tuesday’s meeting at the Delta County Courthouse had many individuals who spoke on both sides of the ongoing wind turbine issues. The planning commission heard a lot about property rights.

“Property rights for the land owners, the farmers…don’t take them away…,” said landowner Dave Gimble.

In a show that Heritage is responsive to landowner complaints, CEO Marty Lagina announced some changes to his company’s proposal since the Dec. 4 meeting.

“We’ve eliminated four turbines, which I would point out is ten percent of the project,” Lagina said.

One speaker touched on almost every issue that was brought up by those in opposition to the expansion.

“We talk about property rights? What about the rights of your neighbor whose property value decreases?” Nahma landowner Paul Neumeier asked.

While no official date has been set to make a decision, the commission will hear on formal presentation from Heritage on Jan. 15.
