Re: ‘Wind Energy Onslaught in South Dakota’

Argus Leader | Dec. 8, 2017 | www.argusleader.com

Much has taken place since the Argus Leader published my letter Aug. 11, 2016, regarding the threat posed by wind power to the tranquility of South Dakota.

I have regularly been kept abreast of the growing population of wind turbines in S.D., as well as the growing concern of residents who are impacted by sight, sound, feel, and health concerns of these monstrous machines. Unfortunately, the concerns of residents in S.D., across the country, as well as internationally (particularly in Europe) are overridden by politicians at every level of government whose support is purchased by contributions from the wind power industry.

In S.D., the wind power industry has purchased the support of Sens. John Thune and Mike Rounds, as well as many state and local politicians including Public Utility Commissioners, County Commissioners, and even small town mayors and newspapers.

Senator Thune’s largest contributor is the wind industry and it also ranks very high among contributors to Senator Rounds and others.

The real tragedy is that wind power (and solar power) are doing absolutely nothing to reduce the level of CO2 emissions into the global atmosphere, and long before they could have even a miniscule impact, far more efficient, emissions-free forms of energy will be producing the world power needs.

The stealth moves by the wind power industry are invading more and more of S.D., and soon hundreds of miles of High-Voltage transmission lines will follow to carry the electricity south or east across the country. In time, many farmsteads will be vacated as current owners age or choose to leave the turbine-infested landscapes. Their offspring will be even more unwilling to take up farming among the spinning monsters.

In my Aug. 11, 2016, letter I elaborated on Germany’s disastrous venture into “Renewable energy”. The Nov. 18-20, 2017, issue of the Wall Street Journal has a lead editorial titled, “Germany’s Green Energy Meltdown.” All South Dakotans should read this article and take heed before their beautiful land succumbs to the “Wind Monster.”
