No more deliveries to Afton Windfarm means peace for Afton Road in New Cumnock

Residents of Afton Road in New Cumnock are breathing a collective sigh of relief.
It follows the completion of turbine component deliveries to Afton Windfarm.
The work started in May this year when people in the area were aware of a significant increase in heavy goods vehicles in the area.
A spokesman for project managers, National Power, said: “We are delighted to report that the delivery of turbine components to Afton Windfarm was completed last week, and would like to thank the local residents for their patience during the delivery period.
“The 25 turbine windfarm will be fully completed in Spring 2018 and will have an installed capacity which is enough to power 30,000 homes.”
It was necessary for the vehicles to be of such a scale because they were carrying concrete will for the foundations of the turbines being installed at the windfarm.
Afton Windfarm changed hands, in September last year, while it was still awaiting construction.
A fund run by InfraRed Capital Partners paid £78m for the site which was being developed by E.ON Climate and Renewables near Afton Reservoir.
It was sold by E.ON with full planning consent.
Turbines were supplied and maintained by Spanish company Gamesa while Livingston business Farrans Construction is the electrical contractor and Neas Energy is handling the power purchase agreement.
E.ON had written to people in the community to update them on the sale, while confirming that InfraRed would continue to use the services of National Power.
They are a local company who also worked on the project with E.ON, and currently overseeing the day-to-day management of the project on site whilst Infrared funds the work.
InfraRed is based in London with offices in Hong Kong, New York, Paris, Seoul and Sydney.
