Planning Commission tables compliance report, sound level complaint evaluation report

The Huron County Planning Commission tabled a compliance report and a sound level complaint evaluation report until next year. The reports on the Big Turtle Wind Farm Phase-I 2017 were set aside by the county planners at the Wednesday, Nov. 1 regular meeting citing need for further review. Some planners expressed concern on how testing was done and estimated. The sound level complaint evaluation report was done at the Rodney McLean property in May. The project was done under the 2010 Ordinance.

On-site Manager Blake Shroll said during the meeting that the noise or noises from doors or the hub flexing are not constant and may be related to temperatures. He said engineers are looking into it. Shroll added that the noise testing was voluntary.

The planners also heard from Christian Anguis, project manager for Apple Blossom Wind, LLC, in regard to a project nearing completion. He said that there was an estimated two to three more weeks worth of work. The project has employed about 250 overall, with about 80 now and an estimated crew of 20 in the near future, he also said.

Anguis said the company is hoping to revert the lay down site back to farmland, weather permitting, by early December.

Anguis also said the company enjoys a “great working relationship with the residents in Pigeon.” He mentioned the company was involved in the efforts to bring lights to the Scheurer Path to Fitness as well as doing electrical work for the Pigeon Little League facilities, both in Pigeon.

During the meeting, planning commission member Terry Heck submitted 15 questions he wants submitted to Vestas. A motion to send them to Huron County corporate council Steve Allen carried on a unanimous roll call vote.

The next Planning Commission Regular Meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 6 in Room 305 of the Huron County Building in Bad Axe.
