Sleepless Ayrshire woman driven to distraction and forced to sleep in her car thanks to windfarm row

A woman plagued by rings of windmills round her hill farm steading has been forced to take to her wheels… just to get a night’s sleep.

After the latest windfarm started spinning, Pat Spence has become so ill and deprived of a decent kip, she beds down in car parks in her trusty Peugeot Partner.

Pat, 74, is now begging the cash-rich ScottishPower Renewables firm to do the decent thing and buy her out of her home of 30 years.

This week she said: “I have had enough and cannot take it anymore.

“I don’t think there is anyone in Scotland surrounded by so many different windfarms.”

She lives at elevated Dochroyle, three miles from Barrhill, and the inner ring of Mark, Arecleoch and Kilgallioch has 184 windmills.

Music publisher and flautist Pat added: “I am not entirely sure how ScottishPower Renewables have been allowed to inflict all this on me.

“But they have ruined my life and I want to get my life back. I want to be able to sleep in my own bed.”

In March we revealed Pat had become ill due to the “intolerable” infrasound waves the turbine blades fire across the hillsides.

Her head feels as if it is being repeatedly struck with a hammer and her ears are permanently sore.

Since then her health has deterioated after the Kilgallioch farm was switched on.

To try and remain functioning she drives to car parks such as the Wigtown bird hide and family and friends.

Pat said: “I get no respite at home now, it is 24/7, and some nights I don’t get to sleep till 5.30am.”

Her case has been taken on by the Independent Noise Working Group which submits to Government.

This week a spokeswoman for ScottishPower Renewables said: “We are in regular contact with Pat Spence and have a programme of ongoing noise monitoring to ensure our windfarms operate in full compliance with the conditions of their consents.”
