ARCADE – There are public meetings coming up for a proposed project that would see some wind turbines installed within the Village and Town of Arcade, though most of the project’s footprint lies within Allegany and Cattaraugus counties.

Alle-Catt Wind Farm, which is a subsidiary of Invenergy, the company who installed the turbines within the Towns of Sheldon and Orangeville, hopes to install 80-120 turbines through lease agreements with owners of private property within the project’s footprint.

The hope is to generate a maximum of 380 megawatts of energy, which, according to project documents, is enough to power between 98,000 and 147,000 homes.

Alle-Catt touts the project as an economic driver that will create construction jobs, full-time operation and management jobs and provide lease payments to land owners. Furthermore, it estimates that the project will create roughly $3.2 million in taxes for local municipalities and school systems.

Areas outside Wyoming County that are named in the project are Centerville, Farmersville, Freedom, New Hudson and Rushford.

There are two open house opportunities to gain more information on the project coming up next week.

The first is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 17 at the Centerville Town Hall, located at 10965 Rushford Road.

The second is from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, July 18 at the Freedom Town Hall, located at 1188 Eagle Street, Sandusky.

More information and documents related to the project can be found at alle-catt.com.

Invenergy has worked in the area in the past, installing 75 turbines in the Town of Sheldon and 58 turbines in the Town of Orangeville a few years ago.
