Several years ago Town Meeting considered the carefully prepared article proposed by the planning board and supported by the selectmen, which set updated standards for wind turbines in Falmouth. New industrial turbines greater than 250 kilowatts were to be banned anywhere in Falmouth (Wind 1 and Wind 2 are rated at 1,650 kilowatts and are 400 feet tall). The reason for passing the ban was because of the harmful impacts of living too close to an industrial turbine. The zoning change was unanimously passed.
What about those fellow Falmouth residents who already lived too close to the town’s turbines? Was this decision fair to them?
It is hard not to conclude that the town officially recognized the hazards of industrial turbines, moved to protect everyone else from ever living near one, and then left the existing turbine neighbors with a known problem.
This morally wrong decision continues to plague the turbine neighbors and the town’s taxpayers to this day. We don’t need more court decisions because the facts are already clear. There should be no industrial turbines in Falmouth.
