Reader unhappy with power outages

Huron Daily Tribune | June 17, 2017 | www.michigansthumb.com

Despite DTE’s advertising campaign to entice voters to vote “Yes” on the referendum for its next wind energy project, the voters decisively voted “No.” One reason might be that DTE advertises that it has invested substantial amounts in infrastructure. This is very difficult to believe when one loses power three times in one weekend, twice because of wind (the speeds of which were high, but not unusual for Huron County), and once because of equipment failure.

Instead of investing so much in wind generation, which produces power that costs more than power produced by other generation methods, DTE should actually invest in infrastructure so that its customers do not experience long-duration power outages five times a year.

The Thumb existed for several thousand years without windmills and solar panels. It will continue to exist if expensive alternative energy schemes no longer are permitted.
