Illinois Winds to discuss proposed Pittsfield wind farm at energy workshop

PITTSFIELD, Ill. – Pike County residents will hear from the company seeking to construct a new wind farm in the county at an upcoming energy workshop.

Illinois Winds has submitted an application to install wind turbines outside Pittsfield. The application is being analyzed by an outside engineering firm, Patrick Engineering. Illinois Winds representatives will discuss the project’s potential economic impact at the workshop, which will include information on energy incentives for homeowners, businesses and public facilities.

Offered by the Pike County Economic Development Corporation’s Renewable Energy/Telecommunications Committee, the event will be 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, June 8, at the Pike County Farm Bureau Auditorium, 1301 E. Washington in Pittsfield.

“There will be a wide range of information on how to save energy at home,” said Brenda Middendorf, PCEDC executive director. “Small-business owners will have resources available. There will be personal testimonies and information for municipalities to use solar energy.”

The workshop will offer information on obtaining federal and state incentives and tax credits for switching to solar energy.

“It’s important to take a look into those incentives before they are gone,” Middendorf said, “and there’s the additional benefit of lower utility bills later on.”

Middendorf said the workshop, which will include a free lunch, could benefit any small-business owner who attends, regardless of the kind of business they operate.
