Letter: Lincoln County zoning ordinance ‘fair’

Argus Leader | May 22, 2017 | www.argusleader.com

Lincoln County has been updating zoning ordinances regarding wind turbines for over more than years. The Planning and Zoning Board, as well as the Commissioners themselves have been looking at the entire picture and not just one-sided perceptions that developers and those who profit from industrial wind want you to believe. Through this process they have passed an ordinance that is designed to help protect all the citizens of Lincoln County and does not ban them as developers, as their lobby groups want you to believe. Although the current ordinance has some flaws, it is much improved and in the best interest for all of Lincoln County.

These profit-driven industrial wind energy promoters have changed their stories again and again. They have been promoting a project in Lincoln County that includes anything from 100-700 turbines. Who knows what they will be saying tomorrow? This isn’t about a project, but the ordinances that protect us all. Look to the North, East and West of us. They have smaller projects that are now expanding across multiple counties. The ordinances that the County has spent three years researching and updating are fair and in the best interest of you and your neighbor, not those who want to profit at our expense. I urge you to join me in my support of the updated ordinances by not signing any referendum petitions and voting to maintain these updated ordinances if it goes to an election.
