Regarding The Baltimore Sun article “Wind farms OK’d by PSC” (The Capital, May 12):
The Public Service Commission has declared open season to build wind farms off Ocean City. Are our backyards and farms next? Probably yes.
Wind turbines are like developers. They come in with their big bucks and lawyers, pave you over and disappear. Local citizens must pick up the mess they leave. Wind turbines are a noisy, menacing scar on our horizons.
Why do tourists come to Maryland? To look at mountains and valleys crammed with wind farms? To look at ocean vistas scarred with hundred-foot windmills? Oh well, it is just the tourist industry.
These monster windmills are a proven danger to birds and bats, who balance our ecosystem. They always require customers to pay huge financial subsidies up front, which go directly into the well-upholstered pockets of millionaire promoters who are snake-oil salesmen. Everyone gets rich, except the end user. In Iowa, even construction field managers reportedly make more than $300,000 a year. Everyone gets a piece of the million-dollar pie.
Tax dollars are wasted for years to create a relatively piddling amount of electricity for Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. that eventually the consumers are mandated to pay for at excessive rates. This is another boondoggle, similar to the ethanol scam. Product production costs exceed product market value and lost efficiencies prevail.
Only the small groups of wealthy promoters, who buy their way into our Public Service Commission – a misnomer for sure – and our government quietly get rich on the backs of our citizens. The rest of us must just watch helplessly and pay.
