Storm hits Oswego, damages wind turbine near SUNY campus

Central New Yorkers braced for severe storms Monday afternoon and when the storms came, they hit the region hard.

On Lake Ontario the weather changed in an instant from an overcast day to down pouring rain with lightening and thunder.

The SUNY Oswego campus was on alert as light poles and branches came crashing down. However, the most significant damage on the campus was the wind turbine outside of Shineman Center.

The campus grounds crew had to tape off a sizable area with caution tape. Although, they say no debris fell from the turbine.

Crews on the campus did mention that the turbine was having some technical issues before the propellers broke in Monday night’s storm, which they hope to have fixed soon.
