Plans for second extension to Lochluichart wind farm revealed

Renewable energy company Infinergy has submitted plans for an eight-turbine extension to Lochluichart Wind Farm.

The extension would form an integrated wind cluster with both the Lochluichart and Corriemoillie Wind Farms and would help to maximise power output on site.

Lochluichart Wind Farm Extension II is now in its initial consultation phase, as site research, environmental studies and design refinements continue to inform the environmental statement which would accompany an application to Scottish Ministers under Section 36 of the Electricity Act.

The Lochluichart scheme was highly divisive in the local community when first proposed with the proposed number of turbines reduced following public concerns.

As things stand, eight extra turbines are proposed with a minimum tip height of 125m, taking advantage of new turbine technology and addressing the UK Government policy changes which have taken place in recent times.

Community open days will take place over the coming months to ensure the local residents of Garve and District are able to share their views and, says Infinergy, “input into the design process”.

Lochluichart Wind Farm is made up of two developments – Lochluichart Wind Farm, consented in 2008, and Lochluichart Wind Farm Extension, consented in 2012.

Both projects were successfully taken through the planning process by Infinergy and are now owned and operated by Eneco UK.

The current site, which became operational in 2014, has 23 3MW turbines with an installed capacity of 69MW. Current turbines have a tip height of 125m.

Corriemoillie Wind Farm is currently under construction and is owned by EDF ER.

The site has 19 3.2MW turbines with an installed capacity of 60.8MW. The turbines have a tip height of 125m.
