Sand Hills doesn’t want wind turbines

The Public Pulse: Sand Hills doesn't want wind turbines | Omaha World-Herald | www.omaha.com

In response to March 31 Public Pulse writer David Corbin of Sierra Club (“Nebraska will lose with Keystone”), I live in the Nebraska Sand Hills – “God’s Own Cow Country” and a National Natural Landmark. Sand Hills residents are strongly against wind farm development in the fragile Sand Hills.

The wind industry is funded by government subsidies at the expense of taxpayers. Erection of turbines is done by a specially trained labor force that travels following the wind farm developers. They usually aren’t local workers.

Most turbines only last between 15 and 20 years. Repairs are costly, parts are discontinued and decommissioning is expensive. Farmers sign over their land for easements for up to 100 years. If they wish to do something with their land, they have to answer to a corporation.

Install a 330-foot tower in your backyard and see if you think they are great.
