‘Big’ money not behind Wind Resistance

Huron Daily Tribune | March 25, 2017 | www.michigansthumb.com

This is intended to rebut some of the statements made by Mr. Schipinski in your paper on March 16.

Mr. Schipinski’s assumption that groups such as the IICC and even some of the grass root groups here in Huron County (HC) and surrounding counties are funded by outside interests including the Koch Brothers is misleading and follows the same ambiguous tactics that wind power companies use when promoting wind energy. The only connection to the Koch Brothers is that, along with over 100 organizations, they signed the same “Gone with the Wind” PTC proposal to Congress dated Nov. 4, 2013. He wrote “It is obvious” that anti-wind groups in (Huron County) are backed by IICC and that “IICC is funded by the Koch Brothers.” The group IICC has a web page that accepts donations. If research is done, you will find that these “obvious” assumptions are wrong and misleading. Every small group, I know of is self-funded. With a treasury of $1,000 to $1,500, it certainly does not bespeak the “big” money assumed in his letter.

While Mr. Schipinski mentions the possible hazards of gas and oil extraction, he fails to mention both wind and solar renewables and oil and gas plus coal is inextricably linked. Wind is around 28 percent efficient and must be backed up with fossil fuel generators.

I can’t address what is going on in Lincoln Township, regarding personal politics. I do know that concerned local groups want to save what is left of our landscape and rural way of life, and help insure the health, safety and welfare of both human and animal life. These are not “Wind Farms” but industrial complexes that are growing in number and increasing in size. The health and safety are huge issues that need to be addressed. Huron County has done its fair share of renewable energy initiatives. Enough is enough.
