Ogle sets deadline for windmill opponents

WINDBER – Ogle Township’s supervisors are giving worried township residents 20 days to provide scientific data that supports their windmill concerns.

Township Supervisor Harvey Weyandt said a group of more than 50 residents voiced their opinions loud and clear Monday night that they don’t like wind farms.

But he said they’ll have to show there’s proof to support their list of fears about wind turbines – and that current guidelines that prevent them from being no closer to a property than two times a windmill’s hub height aren’t strict enough.

“Nobody likes windmills. But we need a good reason to change that ordinance before we start telling people they can’t put them on their land,” he said.

The township, which met for nearly four hours Monday night, ended its meeting by tabling plans to vote on the matter.

Weyandt said it may take a few months to research and review claims.
