Low turnout for turbine demonstration

A handful of people gathered at the entrance to Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Tuesday, March 7, to demonstrate against the presence of commercial wind turbines in 21 Massachusetts communities. Tuesday’s demonstration focused chiefly on the wind turbines currently in operation on Keith Mann’s cranberry farm on the border of Bourne and Plymouth.
The turbines are situated within close proximity of residential neighborhoods. People in both towns have complained that the sound generated by the turbines has caused sleep disturbance, headaches, increased blood pressure, breathing problems, hearing loss, and vertigo, among other ailments. Demonstrators criticized the state for ignoring the constitution which, they said, guarantees that people shall have “freedom from excessive and unnecessary noise.”
The demonstration was set to begin at 11 AM. By 11:30, only three people had shown up, holding signs.
