City learning to mitigate negatives of wind energy

It is so refreshing to see our community leaders beginning to apply common sense in their actions on “green energy,” as written about in Friday’s article on the Chapman Ranch Wind Farm development.

We need our leaders to educate themselves on the facts about wind energy and to put forth the effort to address the harm that the equipment used to harness the energy can cause. Conventional electric generation facilities require a permitting process, a public hearing process, and then a decommissioning fund commitment when this equipment reaches its end of life. Wind energy developers come in, cash in on the federal rebates, local tax abatements, and then move on quickly. Most of the facilities are flipped several times before the end of equipment life comes. And guess who is left with the removal of this industrial junkyard?

If more folks would realize that the dream of “free green energy” is not free and can only add costs to our lives, we would not allow these monstrosities to invade our beautiful vistas in the Gulf Coast. If you add in the economic impact to our communities, should the government decide to pull out their air training facilities and move elsewhere, our future generations will suffer tremendous consequences.

Corpus Christi and Kingsville residents need to come to grips with the negative impact of harnessing the wind. Our economy, our personal cost of living, land values, and vistas will all be impacted.
