Windmills destroy, go solar

Deerfield Valley News | Jan 19, 2017 | dvalnews.com

Windmills destroy mountaintop environments. Solar is the way to go. Windmills are simply trading one problem (fossil fuels/nuclear for energy sources), and replacing it with another problem. It doesn’t make any sense. There is no logic in windmills.

Windmills typically require massive earth moving and jack-hammering to remove rock at the mountaintops in order to create access roads and sights for the windmills. In addition to cutting off migration routes, food habitat and access for wildlife, windmills also render scenic mountains off-limits to hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. Windmills taint the night sky by requiring obnoxious blinking red lights on them.

Most tragically, these mountains cannot be restored back, they are altered and damaged forever. You cannot ever adequately put all the massive amounts of rock, trees, and earth back on the mountaintop! We must be vocal, active, and fight so that no more windmills are added to the Vermont landscape which serve to destroy Vermont’s mountaintop environments. Solar is the way to go.
