Wind turbine project near Minot needs permit renewal

BISMARCK – A company holding a permit for a wind energy project in McHenry County in north-central North Dakota near Minot that hasn’t yet been constructed will need to meet early next year with state regulators to get a renewal.

Wilmington, Del.-based Meadowlark Wind I LLC was given North Dakota Public Service Commission approval in 2012 for the construction of up to 63 wind turbines to generate about 102 megawatts of power in southwestern McHenry County.

Members of the public wanting a formal hearing can request one through the PSC by Jan. 31.

Commissioner Brian Kalk said, if no formal hearing is requested, an informal hearing can be scheduled sometime in February or later.

“They should re-state their case,” said Kalk, adding that much has changed in the time since the permit was issued.
