Hypocrisy on wind farm eagle take permits

Johnson: Hypocrisy on wind farm eagle take permits | Casper Star Tribune | Dec 15, 2016 | trib.com

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is going to give “take” permits to kill golden eagles as well as bald eagles for a wind farm development. I am in favor of the wind farm but this is clear hypocrisy. Make no mistake if this was for an oil, gas or coal facility, they would never give a permit. “Bald eagle deaths will not require compensatory measures because the bird’s population will likely not be affected.” Yet the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service drag out the Northern Arapaho Tribes request for killing or capturing bald eagles for religious purposes. I don’t have a educated opinion on whether they should be allowed. Wind farm OK, religious purpose or traditional energy sources – NO. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is in charge of enforcing the Migratory Bird Act as well as the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. I am not in favor of a federal agency getting to pick and choose how they enforce the law based solely on the type of industry or activity. It is allowable for green energy to take (kill) or maim because of some greater good? Laws should be laws and not interpreted based upon political beliefs. Treat Wyoming’s traditional energy suppliers in the same manner. Shame on you, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
