Turbine study wastes our money

St. Cloud Times | December 12, 2016 | www.sctimes.com

The VA’s decision to spend an additional $300,000 for a yearlong study and wind test to decide what to do with its failed $2.3 million wind turbine at the St. Cloud VA Health Care System is yet another example of government misspending.

Wasn’t a wind test performed before the construction of the wind turbine? Where are the results of that test?

VA spokesman Barry Venable’s assertion that the money doesn’t take away from the care of veterans is misleading. The money comes from our tax dollars. If not used for the study, the dollars could certainly be used elsewhere.

If I had a car that didn’t work for five years, I wouldn’t be spending $5,000 on it for a study to tell me what to do with it. I’d sell it or scrap it. The VA would do better to do the same rather than continuing to throw money at the most expensive lawn ornament in St. Cloud’s history. It is an ineffective eyesore.

It is decisions like this that cause the average taxpayer to demand government reform and oversight over wasteful spending. We couldn’t run our family budgets this way, and a government that spends this way cannot long continue. Please use our tax dollars more wisely.
