Too many issues with wind farms

Palladium-Item | November 28, 2016 | www.pal-item.com

As longtime residents of Henry County, we are concerned about the hundreds of turbines that are being considered here. We live in a rural area and would be surrounded by them. We built our home in the country because we loved the peacefulness and beauty it offered. These turbines would not only change our way of life, they would drastically reduce the value of the home and property that we love. It is disturbing to think our neighbors can put up turbines without our permission and get paid for doing so. There is also great potential for noise and health risks.

The technology behind these turbines will be outdated in five years. Who will remove them when they are obsolete, catch fire or just quit working? Do you think Henry County will foot the bill for the thousands of dollars needed to take just one turbine down? They will simply remain as monsters in the sky!

The electric service goes out-of-state to the national grid; our electric bills will not decrease. We are not opposed to clean energy, but these turbines do not belong near homes. We have visited areas where they are away from people – high atop mountains.

Supporters of these projects are the turbine companies, which are getting subsidized by the federal government and receiving tax abatements from Henry County, land owners and county officials who hope to see a windfall, and those who will not be living near these monstrosities.

Let’s keep our wonderful county just like it is.
