Inch Moor wind turbine plans dropped

BBC News | 17 November 2016 | www.bbc.com

Plans to build 16 wind turbines on land near Duns in the Scottish Borders have been withdrawn by developers.

Ecotricity was behind the plans at Inch Moor in what it called an “isolated landscape” with “high wind speeds”.

The company claimed the project could meet the energy needs of about 36,500 homes.

However, it has now written to the Scottish government to confirm its decision to withdraw the application with “immediate effect”.

An Ecotricity spokesperson said: “We still think Inch Moor is a great site for windmills – and our project could have made a big contribution to Scotland’s renewable targets.

“However, we’ve spoken with a number of statutory bodies, including Scottish Borders Council and the Scottish government, and have decided not to take the project forward.”
