Has Terry lost his TV because of a wind turbine?

A man is convinced that his TV signal has been knocked out by wind turbines built just 500 yards from his home.

The latest turbine added to the Rodbaston Agricultural College campus on Harrisons Lane in Gailey was activated on Friday and Terry Moss says it has caused the loss of TV signal in his family home.

After contacting the college, Mr Moss claims to have been told it ‘couldn’t have been’ down to the turbines, prompting him to ask the college director to switch it off temporarily to see if there was a link.

By chance, the turbine was either switched off, or malfunctioned, on Sunday afternoon – at which point Mr Moss found he could get reception again.

Concerns over noise, potential loss of value to homeowners and proximity to homes were raised in relation to the original application for the turbines, which was accepted back in 2010.

However, Mr Moss said his TV problem has caught him by surprise and he believes the turbines, which were built to provide power for the site, are to blame.

He said: “I am retired now so in the daytime I will switch the TV on. “I had heard that the turbine would be turned on Friday and when I put the TV on that day, I just got a message saying no signal. “I tried all of the usual tricks to see if I could get it working again but I couldn’t. I put it down to the turbine being switched on and called the college, but I was told by the director that it couldn’t have been their turbines.

They told me to call back Monday Terry Moss from Galiey has lost his TV signal since the turning on of the wind turbine by Rodbaston College after I asked them to switch it off to see if I was right.

However, over the weekend one was either turned off or put out of action and my TV came back on. To me, that is pretty good evidence that something isn’t right.”

The scheme to build the two 413ft-high wind turbines at the campus was given the go-ahead by a planning inspector in December 2010.

The college had to appeal over an original refusal after South Staffordshire District Council turned down an application in April 2010.

In recent months, the chances of South Staffordshire being inundated with more turbines has arisen after UTC Aerospace submitted proposals to build a 126m turbine at the engineering firm’s site in Fordhouses.

Those plans have been labelled ‘grotesque’ by an MP and have resulted in a petition being launched by residents. The company is looking to reduce its carbon footprint by using the turbine to. The college was unavailable for comment.
