Wind farm construction begins ahead of U.S. Navy report

The Chapman Ranch wind farm project is now under construction and one Nueces County Commissioner does not feel that it is good news.

“I would say that I think this is a sad day for our community,” Commissioner Mike Pusley said.

Pusley said the wind farm could lead to the end of U.S. Navy flights in our area.

The Navy has been studying the effects of the wind turbines on its flight operations and that research is supposed to be released this month. That is why he is upset that the Chapman Ranch wind farm is now under construction ahead of that report’s release.

It’s just one of many problems Pusley said he has with the project, and wind farms in general.

“There are zero, zero regulations on wind farms,” Pusley said. “They can put these up anywhere they want to, and there are zero regulations to control them.”

Apex Energy sold the wind farm to a Canadian energy company called Enbridge. The $300 million project is going to end up having at least 85 turbines in place. The work should be completed by spring.
