Turbine zoning hearing postponed for ‘safety concerns’

The zoning hearing into the matter of the Atlantic Wind turbine application in Penn Forest Township was postponed until a future date and time after the applicant and its legal team refused to attend due to “ongoing safety concerns.”

In a letter to zoning solicitor Matthew Rapa, applicant’s attorney Debra Shulski indicated that Atlantic Wind would be petitioning the Carbon County Court to appoint an independent hearing office to hear the matter, as opposed to the township’s current zoning hearing board.

Shulski also said she would be requesting that the hearings be moved to the courthouse, which would be a more secure venue.

The zoning hearing board granted the stay to the proceedings.

Zoning board Chairwomen, Audrey Wargo said that the board members would not voluntarily step down and that all three board members and the alternate intend to see the matter through to its conclusion.
