Wind farm proposal to be raised with Minister

Anti-windfarm campaigners plan to raise the DunoAir windfarm planning appeal with Minister for Arts, Heritage, Regional and Rural Affairs Heather Humphries during her visit to the Knockroe Passage Tomb near Carrick-on-Suir this evening (Thursday, September 15).

The Minister is scheduled to visit the ancient passage tomb located near the Ahenny Slate Quarries at 6.30pm.

Tipperary Co. Council recently rejected planning permission for the 8 wind turbine project proposed for Carrigadoon and Curraghdobbin Hills, which are foothills of the famous Slievenamon. However, the Dutch wind energy DunoAir, which is spearheading the project, has appealed the Council’s decision to An Bord Pleanala.

The adverse impact the wind farm would have on nationally significant archaeological sites in the hinterland of Carrigadoon and Curraghdobbin Hills was one of the reasons the Co. Council cited for rejecting the planning application. Knockroe Passage Tomb is one of those sites.
