New wind farm plans could be on the way – action group releases statement

A spokesperson for Finn Valley Wind Action has revealed that they have reason to believe that Planree Ltd are at the final stages of submitting a renewed application for the development of a Wind Farm in the Finn valley Area.

Representatives from Planree have recently been active within the area collecting data from wind measuring masts and conducting additional bird and bat surveys.

A spokesperson for the FVWAG said: “We have reason to believe that not much has changed in their new proposal and they plan to push ahead with a new application. We feel it is truly unjust to propose another application on top of our community especially as the long awaited wind energy guidelines which may afford the community some protection have still not been finalised. “

In March of this year An Bord Pleanala refused planning for proposed Carrickaduff Wind Farm consisting of 49 turbines with a height to up to 156 metres.

Environmental concerns and risks posed to Special Protection Areas and Natura 2000 sites close to the proposed site were among the reasons for the refusal.

The spokesperson continued: “We would like to thank all the community who supported us to date and given the threat of a new proposal would ask for your continued support in the months ahead. Finn Valley Wind Action will continue to oppose any development that would have any effect whatsoever on daily lives of local residence that have lived there for generations. While we had hoped it would not have been necessary we are commencing fundraising activities in anticipation of the new application and would ask the public at large for their support.”

Meanwhile, there will be an a fundraising tractor run on Sunday, September 25th from the Red Hughs Football pitch at 12p.m. to Meenreagh School, refreshments provided on arrival. €10 per Tractor.
