Unite against Sandhills wind towers

North Platte Telegraph | August 25, 2016 | www.nptelegraph.com

Green energy and global markets are influencing every aspect of our lives. Coal mines have shut down. Cheap oil imports are destroying the oil industry. Where do the people who were employed by these energy companies go? The media tells us the employment rate is up and how many jobs have been created. I think our government is self-destructing its own economy and now it has arrived at our door.

A little known fact of the “wind tower scheme” is the plan to erect 7,000 of these monstrosities in the Sandhills. The Sandhills is an example of production agriculture at its finest with little or no government intervention.

Wind tower construction would be better suited in less productive grasslands where the impact would be less on both agriculture and wildlife.

The enticement of government-funded projects that exclude individual rights is causing a rift among Sandhills residents that may never heal. Infringement on landowner rights using eminent domain and endangering livelihoods by destroying our grasslands with this unnecessary construction project is offensive.

The only way to put an end to this controversy is for everyone to get involved. I ask everyone to come together against wind energy and transmission lines.

The population of the Sandhills is small. We have little influence over national politics and not much over state government. If we do not take a stand on the county level, then we are nothing more than indentured servants who lease our ground from the government.
