E.ON apologise over wind farm noise

Juice Brighton | 25th August 2016 | www.juicebrighton.com

E.ON have apologised to residents in Sussex who’ve been kept awake by noise of construction from the off shore wind farm.

There has been numerous complaints from residents across the coast from Rustington to Brighton since the end of last month, who’ve described the noise as a loud “thumping”.

Work is being carried out off the coast to create the new wind farm site, the piling operation has been underway since February this year and 55 out of 116 foundations have been completed.

A spokesperson from the Rampion project said:

“Since these complaints we have been monitoring the issue closely to better understand the specific conditions under which the piling is likely to be audible at night and have taken action accordingly.

“Over the five weeks since the 19th July, we have occasionally implemented a policy of selfregulation when piling at night, whereby we delay operations until the following morning when we are concerned that conditions may cause audible noise.

“However this is a not an exact science and requires the balancing of a number of highly complex factors such as weather and atmospheric conditions, seabed geology, and the safety of our colleagues and contractors.
