Reduced turbine numbers proposed for Crookwell 2 wind farm

Crookwell Gazette | 23 Aug 2016 | www.crookwellgazette.com.au

The developers of the proposed Crookwell 2 wind farm are seeking to reduce the number of turbines involved from 46 to 33. This is a major part of a number of modifications the developers, Global Power Generation, are seeking for the $200 million project. The original developers of the project, Union Fenosa, had prepared to begin construction nearly eight years ago, and a number of buildings were erected on the site. These were eventually removed, with the only remaining one now on its side after being blown over. However, changes to Government policies created concerns and construction did not proceed. Global Power Generation has announced its bid to modify the originally approved plans “to benefit from the significant technological advances made in wind turbines.” While reducing the number of turbines by 13, the company proposes to increase the tower height from 80 metres to 95 metres, and the blade size from 47 metres to 64 metres. This will increase the rotor diameter from 47 metres to 64 metres, and the blade tip height from 128 metres to 160 metres.
