CS Wind fined $60,000 following worker injury

Ontario’s Ministry of Labour has fined CS Wind Canada Inc. $60,000 after a worker suffered multiple injuries on the job in Windsor.

The worker was hurt Nov. 4, 2014 at the wind turbine company’s facility at 9355 Anchor Dr.

The ministry said the worker was bending one of the “skirts” that connect together with each other to form a turbine tower about 310 feet high.

The worker stepped onto the bending machine and inside the rolled skirt to make final measurements before welding. The two ends of the skirt suddenly moved, trapping the worker.

Ministry of Labour investigators said the bending machine wasn’t blocked to prevent movement, which would have been a “reasonable precaution” under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

The company pleaded guilty to failing to protect a worker and was fined $60,000. There was also a 25 per cent victim fine surcharge on top of that.
