Winds blowing against Minter

Winds in the Northeast Kingdom are blowing against Democratic candidate for Governor Sue Minter.

In a recent interview, Orleans County Senator John Rodgers told Vermont Watchdog’s Michael Bielawski: “The establishment Democrats have been bought and paid for by the renewable energy developers, and I don’t want anything to do with their dirty money. I think that’s what Sue Minter represents, taking money from all of them.”

Rodgers says he knows “a ton of Democrat constituents” who won’t vote Minter because of her wind stance. “There’s a huge number of Democrats up here who feel this is a serious and important issue.” Rodgers points out that Orleans, Caledonia and Essex County Democrats all joined (and were rebuffed) in an effort to curtail “big wind.”

Rodgers says Democrats “are more likely to turn against Minter if they live in areas where industrial wind power plants exist or are being proposed.” Voters in more urban areas, such as Burlington and Montpelier, “don’t worry about turbine noise or seeing their property values plummet due to the unsightly 500-foot towers.”

Rodgers also thinks Minter’s “pledge to ban multi-shot firearms and impose criminal background checks may be too extreme even for Vermont Democrats.”

We think John Rodgers is right on the mark. Sue Minter is simply unable to see the world through the eyes of rural Vermonters, Democratic, Republican or independent. Like the Burlington-based Democrats and Progressives, she is intoxicated with the need for giant, heavily subsidized wind towers in rural Vermont to drag Vermont toward Gov. Shumlin’s shining goal of 90 percent renewable energy by 2050.

She is likely to pay dearly for this myopia in November.
