Utilities regulator creates limits on wind turbine noise

Rutland Herald | August 08,2016 | www.rutlandherald.com

MONTPELIER – Vermont’s utilities regulator has created temporary restrictions on noise levels that emanate from wind turbines.

Gov. Peter Shumlin vetoed an energy siting bill earlier this year due to sections dealing with wind turbine noise. He said those sections would’ve hindered renewable energy development.

The Public Service Board had set standards on a case-by-case basis.

Vermont Public Radio reports the board released its new temporary standards late last month. Those rules apply until permanent rules are created. Those are expected to be finished by July 2017.

The Spanish energy company Iberdrola Renewables is trying to put up more than two dozen wind turbines on a plateau that straddles Windham and Grafton.

The towns are considering public votes on the project in November.
