Major Carsphairn windfarm bid is formally submitted to Dumfries and Galloway Council

A controversial Stewartry windfarm proposal is now in the hands of planners.

Burcote Wind want to build ten 134m tall turbines as part of the Longburn Wind Farm on land east of Carsphairn.

Its the culmination of five years of work for the company which met with residents in May to show their latest plan – which is half the size of their original proposal.

Burcote say they’ve revised their scheme following feedback and if accepted the plan could generate £100,000 a year for a community fund.

Fraser Campbell, Operations Director at Burcote Wind, said: “We are pleased to have now formally submitted our application to Dumfries and Galloway Council for Longburn Wind Farm.

“We have been working on the site for over five years now, on both our current application and previous proposals for the site.”

She added: “We have consulted widely, and worked closely, with the communities over the years to ensure that our application is as well designed and well suited to the site as possible and is one which the local communities can support.

“As part of our application we will be making both community benefit and community ownership offers to the local communities to ensure that Longburn Wind Farm will not only be a sensitive and sustainable development but will also generate significant economic benefit to the region if consented.

“We will continue to engage and consult with the communities and all interested stakeholders moving forward throughout the application process.”
