3rd wind farm proposed in Teton County

A Minnesota company is proposing to build a nine-turbine wind farm in eastern Teton County in 2017.
According to an application, “Form 556,” filed May 31 with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Teton County Wind LLC plans to construct a nine-turbine wind farm, known as a “qualifying facility,” for regulatory purposes that will generate 19.98 megawatts of electricity via a new substation in the vicinity of Interstate 15 and 11th Road Northeast.
No landowners were named in the proposal and Teton County Wind, as of June 30, had filed no leases in the Clerk and Recorder’s office with any landowners. The FERC application lists only a latitude and longitude, which could not be identified to a specific landowner. Neighbors in the area said they had no knowledge of the proposed wind farm.
The electricity would be distributed on NorthWestern Energy’s 69-kilovolt distribution line in the vicinity.
Juhl Energy Inc. of Pipestone, Minnesota, is listed as the principal manager of Teton County Wind, with Corey Juhl noted as the registered agent.
According to its website, Juhl Energy “pioneered community-based wind farms, developing the currently accepted financial, operational and legal structure providing local ownership of medium-to-large scale wind farms in rural America.”
The company has installed or acquired 21 wind farm projects, according to the website, and has developed community wind farms involving more than 75 farmers “as true partner owners and not just leasing of turbine sites.”
Teton County Wind appears to be the first Juhl Energy project in Montana. Juhl proposes to install nine General Electric turbines that will each generate 2.22 megawatts. The installation would take place between June and November 2017, according to the FERC application.
A call to Juhl was not returned as of press time.
