Permission refused for wind turbine extension

An Bord Pleanala has refused ten-year permission for a single turbine extension to a permitted two-turbine windfarm at Crockbrack Hill, Carrowbeg, Meenletterbale and Ballymagaraghy, Moville.

Donegal County Council had previously refused planning permission.

An Bord Pleanala’s inspector recommended that permission be refused as the proposed development would, “interfere with the character of the landscape, which it is considered necessary to preserve, and would be contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.” They added that “having regard to the scale of the propose turbine and its visual prominence it is considered that the proposed development would seriously injure the amenities of the area, by reason of visual intrusion and overbearing visual impact within a spatially enclosed landscape to the east and a more open landscape to the west. The proposed development would therefore detract from the tourism resource and would be contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.” You can read the full report on www.pleanala.ie
