Clearview invites Premier to turbine site

(Stayner) – The Premier of Ontario is being invited to our area to see first hand how the local airport would be impacted by wind turbines.

The Collingwood Airport Services Board, at a recent meeting, voted in favour of inviting Kathleen Wynne and the Minister of the Environment to take a helicopter tour over the airport to see where the turbines, planned by WPD Canada, would go.

Clearview Township Deputy Mayor Barry Burton sits on the board and says he has heard that the Environmental Review Tribunal has asked for a stay which is basically a delay, in the decision deadline on an appeal of the approved turbine development. This has not been confirmed. The deadline has been August 19th.

Burton says if this is true and a decision isn’t coming now until around October, then there is time to get the Premier and Minister here to see how the turbines would impact the flight path around the Collingwood Regional Airport.

He adds when he and other board members took a helicopter flight over the area, he thought it was scary to see how low and how high they are at the same time.
