Scots shoot down Blackshaw; Government rejects Community Windpower’s appeal over 21MW project

The Scottish government has rejected a planning appeal by Community Windpower for its 21MW Blackshaw wind farm, which would have been located about 2km east of West Kilbride.

Dannie Onn, the reporter appointed by Scottish ministers, cited the visual impact of the six-turbine wind farm as the reason for rejecting the appeal.

“The development as proposed here would have unacceptable landscape and visual impacts,” the reporter said.

Onn played down concerns over the wind farm’s affect on tourism and recreational activities, as well as aviation and airport safety, but said this was not sufficient enough to override the visual and landscape issues.
