Commissioners reject wind farm project

It appears the wind turbine project in Logan County has been nullified.

Commissioners John Bayliss, Tony Core, and Dustin Wickersham voted unanimously Tuesday afternoon to reject EverPower’s request for a payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT) to build 18 wind turbines in the Belle Center area as part of the Scioto Ridge Wind Farm.

The commissioners rejected the petition because the company failed to demonstrate the project would benefit our community.

Part of their resolution read: “The Logan County Board of County Commissioners is not convinced that over the life of the project that granting the PILOT would benefit the community. Likewise with respect to job creation, the Logan County Board of County Commissioners is not convinced that the amount of taxes abated would be exceeded by the benefit of gaining relatively few permanent employees.”

The vote does not stop EverPower from building wind turbines in Logan County, but Scioto Ridge Project Manager Jason Dagger said the company would not build without the abatement.

Trustees in Richland Township and Rushcreek Township passed resolutions opposing the project.

EverPower still plans to build 87 wind turbines in southern Hardin County.

The project will generate tax revenue for Benjamin Logan and Upper Scioto Valley.
