New Victoria residents urged to attend meeting about energy project

NEW VICTORIA – A municipal councillor is encouraging residents of New Victoria and area to attend a meeting to discuss a proposed wind energy project.

The meeting will take place at the New Waterford and District Community Centre on Thursday from 6-8 p.m.

“I just want to alert the community – New Victoria residents in particular – on the meeting,” said Coun. Lowell Cormier, the District 11 representative on the Cape Breton Regional Municipality council.

Cormier said he wants to make sure residents are aware.

“I encourage people to attend to get the details on the proposal.”

Celtic Current LP is proposing to develop a 2.3 MW wind energy project on Highway 28. According to a recent advertisement in the Cape Breton Post, the project is in the preliminary stages of development.

The community meeting is being held to discuss the project and provide details relating to a provincial environmental assessment activities currently underway.

The project co-ordinator is Martha Campbell of Celtic Current LP in Southwest Mabou.
