Wind farm needs weigh-in from Navy

I find it strange that the FAA has the ability to give a preliminary go-ahead to place 86 wind turbines on Chapman Ranch without even consulting with the Navy, who has been using our South Texas skies for training purposes since the 1940s. Naval air training has been a cornerstone of our South Texas economy since then, but even more concerning is the apparent oversight of soliciting any feedback from the Navy and its daily use of our area for its basic and advanced flight training operations.

We have been lucky that the BRAC commission has left our bases alone (NAS Corpus Christi and NAS Kingsville) because they are a vital part of our local economy. I hope that the Naval Air Training Command and the Dept. of the Navy immediately protest any installation of wind turbines because they DO pose a hazard to flight operations (false echoes from the blade turbulence) as well as a physical hazard to any low flying aircraft.

I feel that the FAA has overstepped their authority in granting any clearance regarding this, and I hope the Navy steps in and tables this project permanently.
