University may probe turbine ills

Huron County is exploring the possibility of teaming up with the University of Waterloo for an investigation of health complaints and wind farms.
The county’s board of health was set to launch its own investigation in May when it hit the pause button.
Board chairperson Tyler Hessel, who’s also the mayor of Bluewater, said the board wanted to be sure it wasn’t duplicating other health studies.
The possibility of partnering with Waterloo was suggested to the board by Huron’s acting medical officer of health, Dr. Miriam Klassen, Hessel said.
“We want to do it right. We don’t want to fast-track something and have everyone dismiss everything that we do,” Hessel said.
“If we can have a reputable university like the University of Waterloo involved with us in a partnership program, then it only makes us look that much better, as well as them,” he added.
The Huron County Health Unit has received complaints from residents living near wind turbines of problems such as headaches, nosebleeds, dizziness and sleep deprivation.
