Vermont’s legislators are preparing a possible return to the Statehouse on Thursday.

That’s when they would convene to try overriding any vetoes of legislation by Gov. Peter Shumlin. The governor has already vetoed one bill, H.518, which would have expanded membership of the Clean Water Fund Board, but the leadership is eyeing a potential veto of S.230 as the primary reason to return.

The Legislature adjourned for the year on May 7, but with a provision that lawmaker may return a veto session on June 9.

“We are telling our folks they should be prepared to come back,” House Speaker Shap Smith said on Friday. Lt. Gov. Phil Scott has also blocked out time on his public appearance schedule for a possible veto session.

S.230 was one of the final bills passed by the Legislature this session and would give Vermonters more say in the siting of renewable energy projects.

Shumlin spokesman Scott Coriell said the administration is still reviewing the legislation and would make a decision on the bill early next week.
