According to the Wildlife Society Bulletin, wind farms kill an estimated 573,000 birds each year in our country, including 83,000 hunting birds such as hawks, falcons and eagles.
The current population of bald eagles is estimated at 143,000, with its population increasing 14 percent annually. The current population of golden eagles is estimated at only 40,000 with its population in decline! Southwest North Dakota is the breeding area for golden eagles in North Dakota, in fact there are known golden eagles currently nesting in the footprint of the proposed Brady Wind farm.
With prairie dog towns also in the footprint, this poses a great risk to our local eagle population.
Wind farms need to be cited where there is no risk to eagles, whooping cranes or other endangered species. Please call your county commissioners and/or public service commissioners, and save the eagles!
