Rumour confirmed: Wind farm to be built near Villers-Bretonneux war memorial

RUMOUR CONFIRMED: Wind farm to be built near Villers-Bretonneux war memorial | May 17, 2016 | www.3aw.com.au

Eight wind turbines are set to be built behind Australia’s main war memorial on the Western Front in France.

“Don’t Forget The Fallen” told the Rumour File the wind farm was going to be built not far from the Villers-Bretonneux site.

Australian troops fought over the land in their great advance of August 1918.

The names of more than 10,000 Australian soldiers with no known grave are listed at the memorial.

Mat McLachlan from Battlefield Tours confirmed the news and said French locals needed Australia’s help.

“The locals aren’t in favour of it, at all,” he told Ross and John.

“There are big protests going on at the moment.

“I’ve been contacted by people from France saying we need Australian support.”

Those wanting to protest the wind farm can send an email to jeanclaude.builles@nordnet.fr or visit https://www.facebook.com/BattlefieldTours/
