Commons blow for RO wind

reNEWS | 10/05/2016 | renews.biz

MPs have again rejected a Labour Energy Bill amendment to widen the grace period criteria for wind farms affected by the early closure of the Renewables Obligation.

Energy Secretary Amber Rudd’s motion to block shadow energy spokesman Lord Grantchester’s amendment 7TB was passed by 286 votes to 260.

Labour’s latest Energy Bill amendment would have allowed for just four wind farms in addition to the government-backed grace period projects.

The amendment made provision to widen the grace period until 31 March 2017 for wind farms where the relevant planning authority had resolved to grant planning permission by 18 June 2015 and had issued legal agreements by 18 September.

Lord Grantchester’s amendment that passed in the House of Lords on 26 April would have resulted in an extra 66.3MW capacity, with all four schemes based in Scotland.
