‘Swoosh, swoosh, sound in Henry Cty.

A wind farm could be coming to Henry County. A second tax abatement for the Flat Rock project in the south of the county passed with flying colors at the county council meeting last week, even though many people shared substantial arguments extolling the negatives.

If you live in the country on a piece of land, depending on the existing zoning for your home, a turbine could be erected near your home.

If these things are “unobtrusive” as Henry County Commissioner Ed Yanos commented, and if the noise they make is no worse than an air conditioner, as EDC Director Corey Murphy commented, I think New Castle would be a great place to put them. Any noise, light and shadow flicker, sub-audible sounds, ice fling, loss of property values would be minimal. No problem.

Many of our “no wind farm” signs are being stolen, sometimes the signs along an entire road will disappear. Too bad that we, in turn, will not be able to remove the turbines as easily once they go up. Funny how the pro-wind people can’t stand to see little signs along the road, but they are so anxious to see 500-foot tall, noisy, spinning turbines.

That’s because the money they expect to receive from signing on the dotted line will be tremendous. What is that expected dollar figure, now? $10,000? $20,000? $30,000? That’s per turbine every year. If you have a landowner with 10 of these, 20 of these, or 50 of these or more on their land, you do the math.
